Agri-Spouse Friday - Week 15 and 16

Welcome back to our Agri-Spouse Quilt Along. There wasn't a post last week so this week's post will be week 15 and week 16.

Quinn had all of last week off so we did a whole bunch of running around and got ten tonnes of errands done, including getting our Christmas shopping started. I almost forgot to add that Quinn had a thing that required an actual suit. It was an extremely rare sighting but I managed to get a photo of my darling husband all gussied up. Doesn't he clean up pretty good?

Rhylee had his second Tae Kwon Do competition last Saturday. He got a bronze in Poomsae again. I still think that there was only three boys in his division and he wasn't quite as proud this time. He had hoped to do better this time but he didn't really change much. There was a discussion about using crisper moves and getting his chin and eyes up and maybe he would do better next time.

He did improve with his sparring though. We were very proud of our boy as he managed to WIN his first sparring match. For the first time, he actually won a match. Even his coach was proud of him as he did a great job. He listened to his coach, he did as he was coached and he won! He was tied at halfway through his second match but then he got focused on the scoreboard and watched that more than his competitor and so he lost that one. Since he did win the first match he got a silver medal. He was so proud of winning a silver medal in sparring. We all were too!

We have blocks to show off too!

First is Mom's Spool:

Then we have Mom's Friendship Star:

And Mom's Homeward Bound:

We also have Suzanne's Economy Block:

And Suzanne's Gentleman's Fancy:

If you managed the blocks from the last post then you shouldn't have any trouble with the two blocks that should have been posted last week and the two blocks that were due today!

I was on the phone long distance to my Aunt while sewing this first block and while I thought I took pictures while I was sewing and talking, apparently I missed the photography step. Hopefully this will make sense even without the photos I forgot to take.

Our first block for week 15 will be Block #54 - Kitchen Woodbox.

Cut each of the dark blue 2" squares on the diagonal.

Centre the long edge of the dark blue triangle RST along the edge of the small blue square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Centre the long edge of another dark blue triangle RST along the opposite side of the light blue square. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Lay your ruler along the side of the square that you haven't sewn on and trim the ends of the triangles off. Do the same with the other side of the square. Repeat for each of the other three small light blue squares.

Flip square 2 RST onto square 3 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 3. Flip square 5 RST onto square 6 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 5. Flip square 8 RST onto square 9 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 9. Flip square 1 RST onto square 4 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 4.

Now flip square 7 RST onto square 4 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 4. Flip the 2/3 set RST onto the 5/6 set, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward the 2/3 set. Flip the 8/9 set RST onto the 5/6 set, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward the 8/9 set. Flip the 1/4/7 set RST on the 2/5/8 piece, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press to one side and your second block for week 15 is finished.

Lay your ruler on your stitch line and cut a 1/4" away from the stitch line. Set the seam and press to one side so that the triangle is open. Repeat for the other large grey rectangle.

Place a large black square RST on the opposite of the grey rectangle as previously. You should now have two flying geese with a large grey triangle and two small black triangles on each side making a large rectangle.

Set the long thin rectangle RST, centred onto one the tip on one Flying Goose. Sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.
