Agri-Spouse - Week 12

Welcome back to our Agri-Spouse Quilt Along.

Rhylee had a great time at his Tae Kwon Do Competition a week and a half ago.

Here he is with the bronze medal that he won for his Poomsae. That is the pattern that he does based on his belt level. He was doing really well on his sparring until an unfortunate kick with his partner. He was only one point down until that time which is when he hurt his ankle with a bad kick which then caused him to bring his foot down wrong so he twisted his ankle too. After that he didn't get another point which disappointed him but we are proud of him for trying anyway. He had only been practising with the sparring team for five weeks at this point! Good job little man.

Other than that things have been busy here. Quinn had last Friday off again and that is when I get into trouble with my posts. He has so few days at home that we find that we end up running around getting things done and trying for a date lunch. We take our "dates" where we can get them.

For exciting quilting news, I have pictures of Mom's first blocks! Yay Mom! Congratulations.

So first we have Mom's Basket Weave:

And second up is Mom's Autumn Tints:

Aren't they great?

For the blocks from last week we will start with Suzanne's Box:

And then we have Suzanne's Puss in the Corner:

This week we will start with Block # 68 - Postage Stamp.

Cut ten dark blue squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Cut nine pink squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Cut nine orange squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Cut eight light blue squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".

Arrange your squares in the way that you want them to look. From here this is actually a fairly simple block. The pieces are small but not complicated. The way I pieced it is not the way I would piece it a second time. Another time I would make nine little four patches and then sew those four patches together the way I sewed together all the other nine patch blocks.

Instead I sewed four nine patch blocks.

Flip square 2 RST onto square 3 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 3. Flip square 5 RST onto square 6 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 5. Flip square 8 RST onto square 9 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 9. Flip square 1 RST onto square 4 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 4.

Now flip square 7 RST onto square 4 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 4. Flip the 2/3 set RST onto the 5/6 set, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward the 2/3 set. Flip the 8/9 set RST onto the 5/6 set, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward the 8/9 set. Flip the 1/4/7 set RST on the 2/5/8 piece, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press to one side and you have your first nine patch. Repeat in order to make three more nine patch blocks.

Now flip one of your nine patch blocks RST with the nine patch beside it and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press to one side. Repeat for the other nine patch pair.

Flip the two larger pieces RST and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press to one side and your Postage Stamp Block is finished!

Our second block for today is Block #92 - Streak of Lightning.

Cut eight raspberry rectangles 1 1/2" x 2 1/2".
Cut three raspberry squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Cut seven light pink rectangles 1 1/2" x 2 1/2".
Cut three light pink squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".

Arrange your pieces the way you want them to look. With this block you still want to be accurate but you don't have to worry about seams matching! Sew each of your strips together with a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.

Now flip strip 1 RST onto strip 2 sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Flip strip 3 RST onto strip 4 sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Lastly, flip strip 5 RST onto strip 6 sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.

Next flip the 1/2 set RST onto the 3/4 set, sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side.

Flip the 5/6 set RST onto the 1/2/3/4 set, sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side and Streak of Lightning is finished!

That's the blocks for this week. Luckily they are fairly simple since they are late. See you on Friday!
