Agri-Spouse Friday - Week 13

Welcome back to Agri-Spouse Friday!

This week I am on time! Just barely but on time. It has been a crazy week here. I have two children sick with a cold and the chaos of Halloween. Both of my wonderful children are very excited. I will have one Harry Potter and one Royal Red Princess.

I also have two photos from Mom.

First we have Mom's Rainbow Flowers:

And then we have Mom's Northern Lights:

That's all the photos that I have this week. I suspect that that is all I have because of how late last week's post was. So, with that, we will move on to this week's blocks!

We will start with Block # 26 - Cut Glass Dish.

Cut three grey squares 2 1/2" x 2 1/2".
Cut twelve yellow squares 2" x 2".
Cut twelve yellow squares 2" x 2".

Place one 2" yellow square RST with one 2" blue square. Pin on the diagonal. Draw a line diagonally on the wrong side of the lighter fabric. Sew a seam 1/4" from the line you have just drawn and then sew a 1/4" seam on the other side of the line you drew. Then place your ruler along the line you drew and slice the two HSTs apart. Set the seam and press to one side. Repeat the process with the remaining eleven yellow/blue 2" squares to make all of the squares into HSTs. Trim your HSTs to 1 1/2" square. You should now have twenty-four yellow/blue HSTs that measure 1 1/2" square.

Arrange your pieces the way that you want them to look.

Flip one HST RST onto another HST, sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Repeat for the rest of the HSTs until you have twelve HST pairs sewn together.

Flip one HST pair onto another HST pair, sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side so that you now have a yellow/blue HST four patch. Repeat with the rest of the HST pairs until you have six yellow/blue HST four patches. Once again you have a basic nine patch.

Flip square 2 RST onto square 3 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 3. Flip square 5 RST onto square 6 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 5. Flip square 8 RST onto square 9 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 9. Flip square 1 RST onto square 4 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 4.

Now flip square 7 RST onto square 4 and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward square 4. Flip the 2/3 set RST onto the 5/6 set, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward the 2/3 set. Flip the 8/9 set RST onto the 5/6 set, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press toward the 8/9 set. Flip the 1/4/7 set RST on the 2/5/8 piece, nest the seams neatly and sew a 1/4" seam. Set the seam and press to one side and the first block is finished.

Our second block this week will be Block #38 - Four Winds.

Cut four yellow squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Cut four pink squares 1 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Cut seven yellow squares 2" x 2".
Cut four pink squares 2" x 2".
Cut four green squares 2" x 2".
Cut thirteen purple squares 2" x 2".

Match six yellow 2" x 2" squares RST with six purple 2" x 2" squares. Trim all twelve yellow/purple HSTs to 1 1/2".

Match one yellow 2" x 2" square RST with one pink 2" x 2" square. Trim all both yellow/pink HSTs to 1 1/2".

Match three purple 2" x 2" squares RST with three pink 2" x 2" squares. Trim all six purple/pink HSTs to 1 1/2".

Match four purple 2" x 2" squares RST with four green 2" x 2" squares. Trim all eight purple/green HSTs to 1 1/2".

Arrange all of your pieces the way you want them to look. We will sew the pieces into four patches which will make a nine patch.

Flip the first piece RST onto the second piece, sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side. Repeat for each pair.

Next flip each pair RST onto each other, sew a 1/4" seam, set the seam and press to one side in order to make a four patch. Repeat for each pair. You will now have nine four patches to sew together like a nine patch.

Set the seam and press to one side and the second block is finished.

Our third block this week will be Block # 87 - Star Gardener.

Cut one pink 2 1/2" x  2 1/2" square.
Cut twelve pink squares 2" x 2".
Cut twelve purple squares 2" x 2".
Cut eight purple 1 1/2" x  1 1/2" squares.

Place one 2" pink square RST with one 2" purple square. Repeat the process with the remaining eleven pink/purple 2" squares to make all of the squares into HSTs. Trim your HSTs to 1 1/2" square. You should now have twenty-four pink/purple HSTs that measure 1 1/2" square.

Set the seam and press to one side and the third block is finished.

Next week's blocks will be a change of pace. No HSTs, no four patches and no nine patches! See you next week!

Tara.
